అజ్ఞానాంతర్గహన పతితానామత్మవిద్యోపదేశైః
త్రాతుం లోకాన్ భవదవశిఖా తాప పాపచ్యమానాన్ |
ముక్త్వా మౌనం వటవిటపినో మూలతో నిష్పతంతీ
శంభోర్మూర్తిః చరతి భువనే శంకరాచార్య రూపా ||

अज्ञानान्तर्गहनपतितान् आत्मविद्योपदेशैः
त्रातुम् लोकान् भवदवशिखातापपापच्यमानान् ।
मुक्त्वा मौनं वटविटपिनो मूलतो निष्पतन्ती
शंभोर्मूर्तिः चरति भुवने शंकराचार्यरूपा ॥
The purpose of visit to this world in the form of Adi Sankara for the supreme lord is like this:
"Those who have fell into the darkness of ignorance which is very difficult and fearful (
ajnAna antar gahana patitAnAm), and those who are being roasted by the flames of miseries in this world (
bhava dava SikhA tApa pApacyamAnAn); to provide protection and make them cross over the difficulties and miseries (
trAtum lOkAn) by advising them on their own true nature (by
Atma vidya upadesa!), having left the silence (
muktvA maunam), leaving the banyan tree (
vaTaviTapinO mUlatO nishpatantI), comes forward the supreme lord
Sambhu (
one brings auspiciousness) into this world in the form of
SamkaracArya!!"
