రఘువంశం - యజ్ఞ సంస్కృతి

తవ మంత్రకృతో మంత్రైర్దూరాత్ప్రశమితారిభిః .

ప్రత్యాదిశ్యంత ఇవ మే దృష్టలక్ష్యభిదః శరాః .. 1-61..

--రఘువంశం - 1 వ సర్గ, 61వ శ్లోకం

ఇవి దిలీప చక్రవర్తి వశిష్ఠ మహర్షితో అన్న మాటలు. 

సనాతాన యజ్ఞ సంస్కృతి లో దేశాన్ని పరిపాలించే రాజులు, ఋషుల మంత్ర శక్తి తో అతీంద్రియమైన శక్తిని పొందేవారు.  

శత్రువులు రెండు రకాలు. 1. బాహ్యం గా కనిపించే శత్రువులు 2. అంతరంగా కనిపించకుండా రాజ్యానికి అపకారం చేసే (దూర శత్రువులు) 

బాహ్య శత్రువులను జయించడానికి అస్త్రాలు అవసరమైతే, సూక్షమైమన శత్రువులను శాంతింపజేయడానికి మంత్రశక్తి తో కూడిన శస్త్రాలు, వాటి ప్రయోగం తెలిసిన పురోహితులు అవసరమవుతారు. 

పైన చెప్పిన శ్లోకానికి అర్థం ఇలా చెప్పుకోవచ్చు:

ఓ మహర్షీ! మీ మంత్రములతో దూరమునుంచే శాంతింపబడిన సూక్ష్మ శత్రువులు నివారించ బడుతున్నారు (నా రాజ్యం రక్షించ బడుతోంది) నా శరములు కనిపించే శత్రువులను మాత్రమే భేదిస్తున్నాయి.

ఇదీ యజ్ఞ సంస్కృతి. క్షాత్రం, బ్రాహ్మం సహాయంతో ప్రజా రక్షణ చేయాలి. 

tava ma.ntra kR^ito mantraiH dUrAt prashamita aribhiH | 

pratyAdishyante iva me dR^iSTa lakshya bhidaH sharAH || 1-61

--RaghuvamSam 1st sarga, 61st verse

These words are spoken by the great dilIpa chakravarthi to bhagavAn vaSishtha. In the culture of sanatana dharma based on the knowledge of yajans given by the vEdas, the public administration is the duty of the king, who is advised by the sages well versed in the "mantras", that reveal a subtle and divine reality beyond what is seen and experienced by body and mind. 

The enemies are of two kinds, 1. those seen and visibly opposing. 2. those who are not seen and operating out of range. While the direct enemy can be fought with missiles and weapons, the indirect enemies have to be subdued by the power of mantras (or strategies.)

So, the meaning of the SlOka can be interpreted as (loose translation) below:

By your holiness (bhagavAn vaSishTha) mantras, the far-away, unseen enemies of mine are subdued, as my weapons are breaking down the seen enemy's plans and returning results! 

The protection to the emperors is the strategic subtle power of the purOhita.
