జననీ జన్మభూమి

అపి స్వర్ణమయీ లఞ్కా న మే లక్ష్మణ రోచతే
జననీ జన్మభూమిశ్చ స్వర్గాదపి గరీయసీ

अपि स्वर्णमयी लङ्का न मे लक्ष्मण रोचते।

 जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी॥

Let this "Golden Lanka" be filled with all wealth, It is not charming me, O LakshmaNa! mother and motherland are greater than even the heaven.

-- It has been three years since my mother left this world; and about a decade since I returned to my motherland.

బ్రాహ్మణ సహజ లక్షణాలు

భూనుతకీర్తి బ్రాహ్మణుఁడు పుట్టుడుఁ దోడన పుట్టు నుత్తమ
జ్ఞానము సర్వభూతహిత సంహితబుద్ధియుఁ జిత్తశాంతియున్
మానమదప్రహాణము సమత్వము సంతతవేదవిధ్యను
ష్ఠానము సత్యవాక్యము దృఢవ్రతమం గురుణాపరత్వమున్.

సహజంగా బ్రాహ్మణుడు పుట్టుకతోనే వచ్చే గుణాలు ఇవి - ఉత్తమ జ్ఞానము, సర్వ భూతములకూ హితము చేయునట్టి మంచి బుద్ధి, మానసికమైన శాంతి, అభిమానము మదము మొదలైన గుణములను తొలగించి వేయుట, సమ దృష్టి, యెల్లప్పుడునూ వేదము చెప్పిన విధముగా ప్రవర్తించుట, సత్యమునే పలుకుట, తన సంకల్పమునందు ధృధత్వము కలిగి యుండుట, కరుణను కలిగి యుండుట.   

Natural qualities of a brahmaNa are as follows:
1. supreme knowledge
2. intention to help all the beings (humans, animals, trees and other beings) for their prosperity.
3. peaceful mind
4. ability to remove the pride and prejudice
5. equanimity
6. conducting oneself as per the directions of Veda
7. truthfulness
8. steadfastness
9. compassion

These nine gems are the original nature of brAhmaNa i.e, a realized person. 

నామ మహిమ

హరిర్హరతి పాపాని దుష్టచిత్తైరపి స్మృతః 
అనిచ్చయాపి సంస్పృష్టో దహత్యేవ హి పావకః 
-- శ్రీ బృహన్నారద పురాణం పూర్వభాగం 11 వ అధ్యాయం 100 శ్లోకం  
-- జ్యేష్ఠ మాస శివరాత్రి సందర్భంగా

hariH harati pApAni dushTa cittaiH api smRtaH 
anicchya api samspRshTO dahati eva hi pAvakaH 

-- SrI bRhannArada purANam pUrvabhAgaM 11th Adhyaya, 100th SlOka. 


hari = Lord Hari
harati = removes
pApAni = sins
dushTa-chittaiH api = even with a wicked mind
smRataH = by remembering, uttering
anicchayA = even without the desire or unknowingly 
samspRshTO = touching, getting in to contact with 
pAvakaH = fire
dahati eva hi = burns only certainly  

Remembering "Lord Hari" even with wicked intention removes sins just like even unknowingly touching fire burns. 

Today is the auspicious mAsa Siva rAtri of jyeshTha mAsa of SrI jaya year. Remembering the name of Lord purifies. That is the power of nAma japa. 

My guru, Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati used to quote this verse before his anugraha bhAshaNa.

మహానుభావుల లక్షణం

శాంతా మహాంతో నివసంతి సంతో వసంతవల్లోకహితం చరంతః
తీర్ణా స్స్వయం భీమభవార్ణవం జనా నహేతునాన్యానపి తారయంతః -39

 

Swami Virajeshwara - Hamsa

शान्ता महान्तो निवसन्ति सन्तो वसन्तवल्लोकहितं चरन्तः । 

तीर्णाः स्वयं भीमभवार्णवं जनानहेतुनान्यानपि तारयन्तः ॥ ३९

Adi SaMkara bhagavatpAdAcArya in his vivEka cUDAmaNi says the above golden words.

SAntAH = those who have attained eternal tranquility
mahAntAH = those who have attained supreme greatness (realized sages)
santaH = those who have attained ultimate reality
nivasanti = lead the life
vasanta-vat = like the vasanta Rtu (spring season)
lOka hitam carantaH = for the sake of welfare of the world or serving the world
tIrNAH = having crossed
svayam = on their own
bhIma-bhavArNavam = frightful ocean of samsAra (the cycle of births and deaths)
janAn-anyAn api = other people (who come in contact with them) as well
a-hEtunA = without any reason
tArayantaH = enable to cross or liberate

The realized sages, having liberated themselves on their own from the frightful cyclic ocean of world entanglement, having established in ultimate truth of self, having became eternally tranquil lead the life effortlessly for the welfare of worldly beings just like the vasanta season (all other seasons have one or other difficulty in winter it is very cold, in rainy season the rain, in summer heat etc.) enable others to cross over without any reason. 

My Guru, Hamsa Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati Maharaj (picture above) is a great example of this. Without any reason, he uplifted a most undeserving soul like me and made me cross this samsAra without any of my effort.

-- Swami attained mahAsamadhi on 31-May-2014 and this Sunday 15-June-2014 (third Sunday akhanda SrI rAma nAma samkIrtana) is the first gathering at the ashram without his physical presense.

మానసోల్లాసము - శ్రీ దక్షిణామూర్తి స్తోత్ర వార్తికం

ఆత్మలాభాత్ పరో లాభో నాస్తీతి మునయో విదుః
తల్లాభార్థం కవిః స్తోతి స్వాత్మానం పరమేశ్వరం - 2

ఆత్మ లాభాన్ని మించిన లాభము లేదు అని మునులకు తెలియును.
అటువంటి లాభము కొఱకు కవి తన ఆత్మ ఐన పరమేశ్వరుని స్తుతించుచున్నారు. 

Atma lAbhAt paraH lAbhaH nAsti iti munayaH viduH 
tat lAbhArtham kaviH stOti svAtmAnaM paramESvaram 

This verse is from mAnasOllAsa, vArtika of SrI surESvarAcArya on the stotra called SrI dakshiNAmUrthi stotram.In this first sloka after the mangaLa slOka, author introducing the purpose of the work.

"There is no lAbha "attainment, gain, or profit" superior to the attainment of self." This is known by the sages. For such a supreme gain, all knowing poet is praising the Supreme Lord abiding in own self.

Let the goddess bestow whatever that is infinite to those infinite souls individually and collectively.

yOgAnanada is the ultimate bliss. The six internal enemies of kAma krOdha etc should be reduced by her grace only. One should establish in the dharma-artha firmly. This firm resolve in righteousness and meaninful prosperity is bestowed by her only. All illuminitation from the Sun, Moon and Fire is her only. Protection of all the three frames of existence namely waking, dreaming and deep-sleep are from her only. All the lordship, ownership over things and all the fulfillment of desires is bestowed by her only. She is the lord of the "pura" of kASi which is effulgence. I beg her only who gives everything for my living. 

తాలిమి - The quality of sages

తాలిమి మనకును ధర్మము తాలిమి మూలంబు మనకు ధన్యత్వమునం
దాలిమి గలదని ఈశుండేలించును బ్రహ్మ పదము నెల్లన్ మనలన్

tālimi - తాలిమి

1. Gentleness.

2. Endurance, patience, steadfastness. ఓర్పు.

3. Fortitude. ధైర్యము.

 

tAlimi is our nature. tAlimi is the root of our achievement.

Only due to this tAlimi the lord gives us the lordship over his highest abode. 

 

So be gentle, steadfast and courageous (all the three qualities put together is tAlimi)
