గంగాష్టకం

భగవతి భవలీలామౌలిమాలే తవాంభః
కణమణుపరిమాణం ప్రాణినో యే స్పృశంతి |
అమరనగరనారీచామరగ్రాహిణీనాం
విగతకలికలంకాతంకమంకే లుఠంతి || 1
bhagavati! thy waters are the garlands on the tied locks of lord bhava (siva)
even a small droplet of size of an atom comes in contact with any being
is capable of giving pleasures of fan waving celestial ladies
by removing all marks of sins of kali, putting in the lap of heavenly abode

బ్రహ్మాండం ఖండయంతీ హరశిరసి జటావల్లిముల్లాసయంతీ
స్వర్లోకాదాపతంతీ కనకగిరిగుహాగండశైలాత్‍స్ఖలంతీ |
క్షోణీపృష్ఠే లుఠంతీ దురితచయచమూనిర్భరం భర్త్సయంతీ
పాథోధిం పూరయంతీ సురనగరసరిత్పావనీ నః పునాతు || 2
dividing the universal egg, playing on the matted locks of lord hara (Siva)
falling from heaven, slipping through the great caves and heights of golden mountain
flowing on the back of strong surface of earth, removing multitude of sins
filling up the ocean, O the river of heaven, purifier! purify us!!

మజ్జన్మాతంగకుంభచ్యుతమదమదిరామోదమత్తాలిజాలం
స్నానైః సిద్ధాంగనానాం కుచయుగవిగలత్కుంకుమాసంగపింగమ్ |
సాయంప్రాతర్మునీనాం కుశకుసుమచయైశ్ఛిన్నతీరస్థనీరం
పాయన్నో గాంగమంభః కరికరమకరాక్రాంతరం హస్తరంగమ్ || 3
covered in the bees coming to drink the nectar secreting from the bull elephants
reddened by the kunkuma of breasts from bathing divine ladies
floating with sacred kuSa grass and flowers offered by sages in the morning and evening near shores
protect us O waters of Ganga! beautiful with the waves made by the playful beating of elephants' trunks

ఆదావాదిపితామహస్య నియమవ్యాపారపాత్రే జలం
పశ్చాత్పన్నగశాయినో భగవతః పాదోదకం పావనమ్ |
భూయః శంభుజటావిభూషణమణిర్జహ్నోర్మహర్షేరియం
కన్యా కల్మషనాశినీ భగవతీ భాగీరథీ దృశ్యతే || 4
In the beginning of great grand father's (creator) worship pitcher's water
later washed the lotus feet of lord sleeping on the great snake - Lord Vishnu - purifier
again become a jewel in the lord Sambhu (Siva) curly matted hair and Sage Juhnu's
daughter; remover of all defects, goddess, known to be bought hear by the penance of bhagIrath!

శైలేంద్రాదవతారిణీ నిజజలే మజ్జజ్జనోత్తారిణీ
పారావారవిహారిణీ భవభయశ్రేణీ సముత్సారిణీ |
శేషాంగైరనుకారిణీ హరశిరోవల్లీదలాకారిణీ
కాశీప్రాంతవిహారిణీ విజయతే గంగా మనోహారిణీ || 5
taken form on the king of mountains, uplifter of those who take dip in the waters
sporting all over the universe, who can cross over series of fears of birth and death
imitating the form of adi sesha in bends, appearing as leaves in the locks of lord Hara (Siva)
sporting in the area of kashi (varaNaSi) - hey victorious Ganga! stealer of our hearts!!

కుతో వీచీర్వీచిస్తవ యది గతా లోచనపథం
త్వమాపీతా పీతాంబరపురవాసం వితరసి |
త్వదుత్సంగే గంగే పతతి యది కాయస్తనుభృతాం
తదా మాతః శాంతక్రతవపదలాభోఽప్యతిలఘుః || 6
Where is longing when thy ripples come into the vision?
One who sips the water is bestowed a residence in the city of pItAmbara (lord Vishnu)
Oh Ganga! if the body falls in your rising waters then O mother,
even the position of the king of gods Indra is very small to compare.

భగవతి తవ తీరే నీరమాత్రాశనోఽహం
విగతవిషయతృష్ణః కృష్ణమారాధయామి ।
సకలకలుషభంగే స్వర్గసోపానసంగే
తరలతరతరంగే దేవి గంగే ప్రసీద || 7
bhagavati! on your shore, consuming only water
giving up all desires for pleasures, I worship lord Krishna
remover of all defects, bestower of ladder to the heaven
with pleasant moving waves, O Ganga! be auspicious to me!

మాతర్జాహ్నవీ శంభుసంగమిలితే మౌళౌ నిధాయాంజలిం
త్వత్తీరే వపుషోఽవసానసమయే నారాయణాంఘ్రిద్వయమ్ |
సానందం స్మరతో భవిష్యతి మమ ప్రాణప్రయాణోత్సవే
భూయాద్భక్తిరవిచ్యుతా హరిహరాద్వైతాత్మికా శాశ్వతీ || 8
O Mother jAhnavI! while merging in Sambhu, rising hands up to the head in reverence,
on your banks, leaving the body, the lotus feet of lord Narayana,
with bliss, I remember, during the celebration of my life-force's departure
Let the non-dual unwavering devotion in hari-hara be eternal.

గంగాష్టకమిదం పుణ్యం యః పఠేత్ప్రయతో నరః |
సర్వపాపవినిర్ముక్తో విష్ణులోకం స గచ్ఛతి ||
This victorious octet of Ganga, studied by anyone with interest and effort
is freed from all sins and attains the abode of lord Vishnu.

--- Today is ashTami i.e, the 8th waxing moon phase of month of jyeshTha.

First ten days of month of jyeshTha is Ganga Dasara concluding on daSa pApa hara daSami. River Ganga came down to earth on the paDmayi day, capable of removing ten sins in ten days.

Three bodily sins 1. unlawful acquisition of someone's property, 2. Injuring others & 3. stealing someone's wife.

Four sins committed by speech: 1. Harsh, 2. Untruthful, 3.slanderous & 4. meaningless speech

Three sins committed by mind: 1.interest in others wealth, 2. thinking ill of others & 3. interest in spreading rumours.

ప్రాణసూక్ష్మాంశమేకమ్ - single subtle force holding everything together

బ్రహ్మాణ్డే యస్య జన్మోదితముషసి పరబ్రహ్మముఖ్యాత్మజస్య
ధ్యేయం రూపం శిరోదోశ్చరణపదజుషా వ్యాహృతీనాం త్రయేణ ।
తత్సత్యం బ్రహ్మ పశ్యామ్యహరహమభిధం నిత్యమాదిత్యరూపం
భూతానాం భూనభస్స్వః ప్రభృతిషు వసతాం ప్రాణసూక్ష్మాంశమేకమ్ ॥ 9

---శ్రీమదప్పయ్యదీక్షితవిరచితశ్రీమదాదిత్యస్తోత్రరత్నమ్

In the universal egg, whose birth makes rise of light, emerging foremost of supreme brahman
the form of meditation, whose head, arms and feet are three vyAhRtis (svaH - heaven, bhuvaH - space, bhUH - earth)
THAT TRUTH; brahman - I behold. whose names are ahaH - day and aham - i, eternal form of sun
of the beings occupying earth, space and heaven and flourishing, the single subtle life-force!

Lets put it together:-

I always see and behold that supreme truth, single subtle life force of all beings described as "aham i.e, I" by everyone, the form of meditation whose head is heaven, arms are the space and feet is the earth, which is the first born of the supreme brahman in the beginning of emergence i.e., dawn, within this universal egg (brahmaNDa)! is the form of Aditya i.e, SUN.

యద్భృత్యా దేవదేవాః సకలభువనగాః సంనియచ్ఛన్తి విశ్వమ్ ।
యల్లిఙ్గం సర్వదేవాసురమనుజముఖైరర్చ్యతే విశ్వరూపం
తస్మై నిత్యం నమస్యాం ప్రవితనుత పరబ్రహ్మణే శఙ్కరాయ ॥ ౪॥

 यद्भ्रूभङ्गैकवश्या विधिहरिगिरिशख्यातिदाः शक्तिकोट्यो

यल्लिङ्गं सर्वदेवासुरमनुजमुखैरर्च्यते विश्वरूपं
तस्मै नित्यं नमस्यां प्रवितनुत परब्रह्मणे शङ्कराय ॥ ४॥

yat bhrU bhanga eka vaSyA vidhi hari giriSa khyAtidAH SaktikOTyO
yat bhRtyA dEvadEvAH sakala bhubanagAH samniyacchanti viSvam
yat lingam sarva dEva asura manuja mukhaIH arcyatE viSvarUpam
tasmai nityam namaSyAm pravatanuta parabrahmaNE SankarAya

whose single wink of eyebrow commands the creator, maintainer and destroyer known to be enormously powerful;
whose attenders are gods of gods controlling activities of multiple universal globes
whose image is being praised by all godly, celestial & human beings in their respective voices as the universal form;
for THAT supreme brahman Sankara I always bow down stretching forward.

స్కందచరిత్ర - సుబ్రహ్మణ్య భుజంగం

తపో వేదాశ్చ విప్రాశ్చ
జ్ఞానం చ బ్రహ్మ సజ్ఞితమ్ |
తేభ్యో హితత్వాత్ బ్రహ్మణ్యః

tapas - austerity, vedas - divine scripture, vipras - knowledgeable persons, jnanam - supreme knowledge --- All these are indicated by the word "brahma"

benefactor of those is "brahmaNya" -- Hence the subrahmaNya is the supreme lord alone.

మునీనాముతాహో నృణాం భక్తిభాజామభీష్టప్రదాః సంతి సర్వత్ర దేవాః |
నృణామంత్యజానామపి స్వార్థదానే  గుహాద్దేవమన్యం న జానే న జానే ||

There are dieties or gods who bestow desires of their devotees and sages. But I do not know of a lord who blesses those who are born in the lowest classes (like tribals) other than the lord guha i.e., surahmanya.

తల్లివిన్కి

నిండారు నోరిమి నిబ్బరికంబు
మాటనిల్కడ తన్వి మంచినడువడి
గుండెబిగువు కల్పుగోలుతనమ్ము
తాల్మి దొఱగఁ బోని దక్కోలు బ్రతుకు
అవిటులఁ బిల్లల నరగడంబులను
నొప్పించకెప్పుడున్ బ్రోచెడి నేర్పు
జంజాటమెడిలి పీచమెడసి మిగుల
నడఁకువతోడుత నందరి పట్ల
నడచుచుఁ ద్రాగక నంజుడు దినక
చదువుగోటునఁ దెగ సాఁగక పనికి
మాలిన కోర్కులం బడయక లేని
పోని తలంపులఁ బొరయక తనకుఁ
గలదాని తోడుతన్గడుఁ దన్విఁ బొంది
పాటించి మైవంచి పాటున కోర్చి
కూడు గుడ్డలు కూర్చుకొని తోటి పాటి
వరలతోఁ గూడి వంతు పంచు కొని
క్రుంగు పొంగులు మానుకొని రేపుమాపు
లిమ్ములఁ గుడ్చువాఁడే తల్లివిన్కి
గిడియతోఁ జాటఁదగిన మొనకాఁడు

Above is a list of prerequisites for the person studying and propagating the 1000 secret names of mother goddess SrImAtA the supreme mother.

"full of patience, compassion, truthfulness, righteous behaviour, friendliness, endurance, helpful towards weak, detachment from world, gentleness, away from habits of drinking and eating meat, away from useless desires, not entertaining useless thoughts, (i.e, internal and external sense control), contended with what is there, steadfast in performing duties, hard working, sharing what is there with others around, who is neither depressed nor raised, balanced one --- is eligible for study and promotion of the knowledge heard about the mother, the supreme reality!"

సాంబ ఏకః సహాయః

సంతః పుత్రాః సుహృదయుతవా సత్కళత్రం సుగేహం
విత్తాధీశప్రతిమ వసుమాన్ కోభవీతు ప్రకామం
ఆశాస్వాస్థా అమృతకిరణాస్పర్ధికీర్తిచ్చటావా
సర్వం వ్యర్థం మరణ సమయే సాంబ ఏకః సహాయః

Great sons, wonderful friends, good wife, beautiful house
wealth equivalent of kubera, all desires fulfilled,
healthy and fit, glory spreading like bright rays of moon
all these are useless at the time of death. Only the supreme lord (samba) comes to rescue.

శుచిః - Holy and purifying

శుచిః భూమిగతం తొయం శుచిః నారీ పతివ్రతా |
శుచిః క్షేమకరో రాజా సంతోషీ బ్రాహ్మణః శుచిః ||

शुचि र्भूमिगतं तोयं शुचि र्नारी पतिव्रता ।
शुचिः क्षेमकरो राजा सन्तोषी ब्राह्मणः शुचिः ॥

Holy and purifying is the water underground. Woman, devoted to her husband is holy.
King, who protects is a purifier; and a contended & happy brahmaNa is holy.
